Turn one product photo into a full ad campaign with Runway

No studio, no photographer, no reshoot.

From Adam

Hey, it's Adam. The ads in that reel started as one ordinary product photo: no studio, no photographer, no reshoot. I used Runway's Agent to turn it into a hero ad, then a full campaign in different creative directions, then UGC-style video ads. All from the same image. You commented RUNWAY, so here's the exact workflow and the prompts.

This is a paid partnership with Runway.

how it works

How it works 🧠

Runway Agent is a chat-based creative agent. In Runway's words, it "analyzes what you give it — a product, image, an ad campaign, or idea — and uses what it learns to create what comes next."

You don't pick models or tweak settings. You describe the result, and Agent "chooses the best model for the task automatically". That can be Runway's own Gen-4.5, or partner models like Kling, Veo, Seedance and Nano Banana Pro.

The workflow has three stages, each building on the one before:

  1. 1One hero ad. Photo in, a premium ad image out.
  2. 2A full campaign. The same photo, taken in several creative directions.
  3. 3UGC video. A person on camera talking about your product, in a casual social style.
what you need

What you need ✅

PlanPriceCredits
Free$0125 one-time credits (they don't renew). Videos carry a Runway watermark.
Standard$15/mo ($12/mo yearly)625 a month, no watermark
Pro$35/mo ($28/mo yearly)2,250 a month
Max$95/mo ($76/mo yearly)9,500 a month

Roughly what things cost: a Gen-4.5 video uses about 60 credits per 5 seconds. Images run from 2 to 20 credits depending on the model. So the Free plan is enough to try the workflow, but a full campaign with video needs a paid plan.

step 1

Step 1 — Open Agent and upload your photo 📤

  1. 1Go to Runway and click Agent in the left sidebar, or go straight to app.runwayml.com/agent.
  2. 2Upload your product photo into the chat.

Your photo appears in the chat box, ready to send with a message.

step 2

Step 2 — Describe the ad you want 🎯

Runway's own tip: "A single, simple sentence works well in most cases." Start simple, then add detail.

Simple start
Turn this into a premium ad for Instagram — luxury feel, dramatic lighting, keep the product exactly as it is.
More control
This is [product] for [who it's for]. Make a hero ad image:[mood — e.g. clean and minimal / bold and energetic / warm andnatural]. Place it in [setting]. Keep the product's shape, colour, label and logo exactly as in my photo. Leave space atthe top for a headline. 4:5 for Instagram feed.

Compare the label and logo against your original photo. If anything has changed, reply "Keep the product identical to my photo — don't redesign it."

step 3

Step 3 — Build a full campaign with /Ad Campaign 🗂

This is where one photo becomes a whole set of ads.

  1. 1In the same chat, type /.
  2. 2Pick Ad Campaign.

Runway describes it as "build a campaign, from concept to finished video and image assets for all platforms."

/Ad Campaign prompt
/Ad CampaignBuild a full campaign around this product. Give me 4completely different creative directions — e.g. luxury studio, lifestyle in use, bold graphic, nature/ingredients. For eachdirection: one hero image plus versions sized for Reels/Stories(9:16), feed (1:1 and 4:5) and YouTube (16:9).

Other skills behind the "/" menu: Commercial, Mood Board, Motion Graphic, Resize Image, Social Thumbnail, UGC Video and Workflow. There's also New Skill, so you can save your own workflow and reuse it.

You get directions that feel clearly different from each other, not four versions of the same shot. If they look too similar, ask "Make the directions more distinct: different setting, mood and colour for each."

step 4

Step 4 — Turn it into UGC video ads 🎥

  1. 1Type / and pick UGC Video.

Runway describes it as creating "an influencer video where a person talks to the camera in a casual, user-generated-content style."

/UGC Video prompt
/UGC VideoMake a 15-second UGC-style video ad for this product. Arelatable person talks to camera like they're recommending itto a friend, holding the product. Casual, natural, filmed-on-phone feel. Script: open with the problem, show the product, end with one clear reason to try it. 9:16.

Watch it with the sound off first. The product should be recognisable and correct in every frame.

step 5

Step 5 — Push it further 🔁

Agent is a conversation, so keep refining:

A/B test variations
Direction 2 is the strongest. Give me 5 more variations of itfor A/B testing — change the headline angle each time.
Add motion for Reels
Make a 6-second version of the hero ad with slow cameramovement for Reels.
Write headlines
Write 3 headline options for each ad, under 6 words.
Resize for all platforms
Resize everything in this campaign for Stories and YouTube.
three rules

Three rules that make it look expensive 🔑

honest bit

The honest bit ⚠️

⚠️

"$10,000 ad" is about how it looks, not a price. It means the kind of result that used to need a studio, a photographer and a set. What you save is the shoot. You still bring the product, the offer and the judgement about which creative is good.

⚠️

UGC video uses AI people, so be upfront. Runway's rules ban using "an image, video, or audio of another person without their permission", and impersonating anyone. If you run AI-made UGC as a paid ad, check your ad platform's disclosure rules. Never present an AI person as a real customer giving a real review.

⚠️

Check every frame before you spend money on it. Look at labels, logos, hands and any text. AI mostly gets these right, and "mostly" isn't good enough for a paid ad.

You own what you make. Runway says the content you create "is yours to use without any non-commercial restrictions from us." The only catch on the Free plan is the watermark on videos.
